There is a high mortality rate of maternal child-birth in the location due to traditional practices. Since, most mothers deliver their babies at home, complications often turn fatal.
However, Oasis joined a project for “Safe Motherhood” called Reproductive Health Output Based Approach -program (RH-OBA) introduced by the Kenya Ministry of Public Health and Sanitation in collaboration with the German Government in 2010. This program has caused an increase of the number of mothers delivering in the facility.
In order to prevent Hiv infection among the newborn infants, a project to build a separate maternity wing was initiated in 2013. Half of this building is already in use by the mothers and the rest is still under construction anticipating to be completed by the end of the year 2015.
